Hattrick for Sustainability I: Paper
This new feature, Hattrick for Sustainability, will describe three industries or technologies that can work synergistically to create a more sustainable economy.Today's hattrick:
landscapers + paper manufacturers + specialized Living Machines
=
less scrap + less trees being cut + paper from trees - polluted water
Landscapers are always pulling up bushes or taking down dead trees. I talked to a few landscapers and they mentioned that they give this waste to local mulching companies. The problem with that is that it the mulch would be full of weed spores. Well, give it to...
paper manufacturers who can turn the waste into pulp for paper. Paper production, however, can create dioxins which they disperse through waste water. In that case, use...
a specialized Living Machine. LM's are small greenhouses that act as water filters. Inside the greenhouses, the water is routed from station to station. Each station is a microecosystem that takes some pollutant out of the water. This system can be designed for any type of waste water and can be scaled up to handle a town, or scaled down to handle a house.
